Biography

Brian Bauer is a shareholder in the law firm of Hall, Render, Killian, Heath & Lyman, P.C. and has over 20 years of experience in health law. Brian concentrates his practice in the areas of health care regulatory compliance, business transactions, reimbursement and governance. Brian has assisted a number of providers (hospitals, FQHCs, RHCs and independent physician groups) to form Accountable Care Organizations and to apply for participation in the Medicare Shared Savings Program. His hospital clients include multi-hospital systems, critical access hospitals and municipal health facilities corporations. Brian has served as general counsel to numerous hospitals, advising them on a wide range of health law, business and ethical issues. He has extensive experience in medical staff relations, credentialing and peer review, including medical staff disciplinary actions and corrective action hearings. He has guided clients through internal and external audits, investigations and disclosures. In addition, he has extensive experience in dealing with Medicare, Medicaid and private payor reimbursement and credentialing issues. He also routinely works with clients on governance, board development and succession planning.

In addition to hospitals, Brian also advises and represents multi-hospital joint ventures, graduate medical education/residency programs, medical control authorities, federally qualified health centers, provider-based rural health clinics and county mental health authorities. Brian earned his law degree from the Valparaiso University School of Law in 1987.
